Reading Rainbows

For my second grader, she is truly growing in her reading skills, so I plan to encourage her reading by reading some of the favorites from our homeschool curriculum guide.  As I mentioned, this has been a super laid-back semester, but in January we get into gear.  I am planning to spend the month of December planning each day of the Spring semester to ensure a great start and finish.  I am still undecided about year-round schooling, but it is sounding better by the day.

Giving True Thanks

Giving true thanks does not occur one day of the year, but everyday of the year.

Thanksgiving Week

Tomorrow starts Thanksgiving Break for most schools.  Fortunately, for us, we don't have to adhere to regular school schedules, so we will continue homeschool everyday, but Thanksgiving Day. 

The plan for this week is to focus primarily on reading because in December, we will review everthing learned from September - November, and in January, we will launch our Month of 100 Books, while walking a marathon over 5 months.  That should be very interesting in the middle of the Chicago winter, but we will definitely try our best!

Monday -
2nd grade:  Story books and reading, math, social studies, and geography
Kindergarten:  Writing, high frequency words, numbers 1-25
Wee school:  Sharing, play, and color exercises

And....we're off!

 

Navigating the microblogging world on Typepad...

Yes, we needed a new space.  Dedicated solely to our homeschool pursuit, and we are happy that Typepad offers microblogging.  It's a convenient, quick and easy way to share the journey of our homeschooling experience with you daily.

While ItIsByGrace shares the passionate journey of our daily walk in discipleship, my desire to share the daily reflections of our homeschooling environment seemed to get lost in the blogosphere. Plus, I really don't have a lengthy, far-reaching posts right now about our homeschool journey. I am learning as we go.

Micro-blogging gives me the ability to create short, poignant posts, which mainly keep me on track and give our children a "school" away from home where I can link to games, upload report cards, share their life-work assignments, and the like.

Welcome to our daily homeschool journey!  I'll have to warn you, it may not be pretty, but as in all things, our pursuit is to bring glory to God through schooling our children, and nurturing them from the heart with His guidance and love.
